Kosher Meat in China
We’ve written at lengths about how Kosher butchers are being restricted in New Zealand. And one of the most intriguing things we’ve discovered as a response to this was that many individuals were not even aware there was much of a Jewish population in New Zealand. Well, if you found yourself in that group, this story might come as even more of a surprise.
The official Chabad website recently did a story on Rabbi Shimon Freundlich, the Shaliach of Beijing. That’s right, Beijing as in the capitol of the People’s Republic of China. According to the story, “a small team of highly qualified Rabbi’s and a Shochet (traveled to Shinyi, a city outside Beijing) to bring Kosher lamb and chicken to all of the 12 Chabad Shluchim residing in the People’s Republic of China.”
From the article itself:
“Led by Rabbi Shimon Freundlich- Shaliach of Beijing China, and world renowned Shochet, Rabbi Chaim Klein from South Africa who was flown to Shinyi for this specific event, and together with the help of an additional four Shluchim, Rabbi’s, Raskin, Rodin, S.B. Freundlich and Vishedsky.”
Rabbi Freundlich “has been sending Kosher meat and chicken to all of the Chabad houses in China from the time he and his wife arrived nine years ago.”
